The Market is the most ambitious Venice Agendas project to date, planned for 2018 – 2019 and follows on from Venice Agendas: The Contract in 2017. We will be partnering with institutions, artists and critics worldwide. Through events in London, Folkestone, Venice, New York and Tokyo we will be examining and dissecting how the art world operates, from major international and corporate commercial galleries to museums, art fairs and biennales. We’ll look at the relationship between art and artists, the public, sponsors, funders, collectors, art schools and public funders such as arts councils. The project will attempt to lay bare the critical connections between the various parts of what is called the visual arts world. With commissioned writing and artists projects Venice Agendas will take a critical look at the mechanism(s) that connects together all the different strands of the art market.
